Li Ganjie (李干杰) was officially appointed as new Minister of China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) on June 27. After nine years as one of MEP’s Deputy Ministers, Li now suc-ceeds Chen Jining (陈吉宁), who will become mayor of Beijing. 52-year-old Li is a nuclear reac-tion unit engineer by training and looks back at a career centred on the topic of Nuclear Safety. During his time as deputy environment minister, Li Ganjie was simultaneously heading the Na-tional Nuclear Safety Administration. Between October 2016 and May 2017 Li briefly served as deputy governor of Hebei Province.
