WHO ARE WE
The federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation and professional training for sustainable development. GIZ operates in more than 130 countries with approx. 17,000 staff members worldwide. We offer our partners in developing, emerging and industrialised countries tailor-made and effective solutions in all fields of sustainable economic development as well as environmental and climate protection.
WHAT WE DO
With over 30 years of experience in Sino-German technical cooperation, GIZ works within the framework of the Sino-German partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries. Currently 50 seconded and about 140 national personnel are working for us in 49 projects and programmes in China. Our portfolio includes policy advise, technical expertise, knowledge transfer, capacity building and organizational development support. We work primarily in fields in which Germany has a well-established profile and where we offer competitive advantages. Our long-standing and successful work in China has given us an extensive understanding of Chinese institutional structures and allowed us to establish excellent networks. In China it is both our mandate and our intention to harness these capacities for Sino-German cooperation.
WHAT WE WORK FOR
In China, GIZ operates primarily on behalf of the German government and is currently commissioned by a number of German federal ministries – such as the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. We also work for the German federal states, the European Commission, the Asian Development Bank as well as clients from the Chinese public sector. During decades of successful technical cooperation in China, GIZ has developed close ties with Chinese and German government institutions. Building upon these networks, we also offer solutions for private sector clients in China to address sustainability issues.
As a German partner for sustainable development, GIZ supports China’s endeavours to reform, to develop a harmonious society and to achieve a balance between economic development, social justice and environmental protection, in compliance with the objectives of the 12th Five Year Plan of the People’s Republic of China. Attention is increasingly also being turned to resource efficiency and climate change mitigation.
