CCICED Annual General Meeting 2022

Guided by the theme “Building an Inclusive, Green and Low-Carbon Economy” the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) & CCICED 30th Anniversary Celebration took place from 13 to 16 June 2022 by a virtual format. The AGM was the first annual conference of the CCICED Phase VII, featuring four plenary sessions and seven thematic Open Forums.

Mr. Huang RUNQIU, CCICED Executive Vice Chair and Minister of Ecology and Environment(MEE), China, chaired the opening plenary session. He highlighted recent achievements and called for innovation as the main driving force to open up new pathways supporting sustainable development.

Mr. Scott VAUGHAN, the International Chief Advisor of the CCICED, and Mr. Liu SHIJIN, the Chinese Chief Advisor and Deputy Director of the Economic Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, jointly introduced the CCICED 2022 Issues Paper on “Stability, Resilience and the Green Transition”. Experts from governments, academia, the business community, and civil society discussed the research findings and recommendations arising from CCICED’s Special Policy Studies (SPSs) on critical issues related to the environment and development.

On the German side, Prof Dirk MESSNER (President of the German Environment Agency (UBA)) in his function as CCICED Council Member and SPS Co-Team Lead as well as Stephan CONTIUS (Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Head of Division (United Nations, Developing Countries and Emerging Economies); German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV)) in his function as CCICED Special Advisor and SPS Expert participated virtually. Prof MESSNER contributed a speech to the „30th Anniversary Open Forum“. Mr CONTIUS spoke in the Plenary Session “Policy Research Dialogues“. The Sino-German Environmental Partnership supported the German participation logistically and organisationally, and jointly organized the Open Forum on ‘Digital + Green’ – Twin Transformation for Sustainability” together with UBA and WEF.
