CCICED Roundtable 2025: Green and Low-carbon Transition for a Beautiful Chongqing

On April 29, 2025, the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) held its annual roundtable in Chongqing, focusing on the theme “Green and Low-Carbon Transition for a Beautiful Chongqing.” The event brought together leading policymakers, experts, and international stakeholders to discuss key environmental challenges and opportunities for sustainable urban development.

The roundtable explored three thematic areas:

  • Fostering Green Productivity and Establishing a Modern Industrial System: strategies for aligning industrial growth with sustainability goals.
  • Advancing Ecological Restoration in the Upper Yangtze River: efforts to strengthen the ecological barrier in this critical region.
  • Leveraging Digital Technologies for Ecological Governance in Mega-Cities: solutions to address environmental challenges in large urban areas like Chongqing.

Mr. Martin Hansen, GIZ Regional Director East Asia delivered a comment speech on Advancing Ecological Restoration in the Upper Yangtze River, emphasizing the urgent need for cross-border cooperation in tackling environmental issues.

CCICED Chief Advisors, Council members, Special Advisors, and invited policymakers, experts, partners, as well as representative from Chongqing and international organizations attended the meeting.

The roundtable reaffirmed CCICED’s commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue and practical solutions for a green, low-carbon future in China and beyond.
