Sino-German Biodiversity Component | Ecosystem Accounting Workshop
From 20 to 22 December 2021, the Environmental Partnership Project together with UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) organised an Ecosystem Accounting Workshop.
The theme of the workshop was “Urban Ecosystem Accounting: Concepts and Implementation”. Dr. Steven KING (UN Environment Programme WCMC), Ms. ZHAO Dan (Senior Engineer, Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design), Dr. HAN Baolong (Associate Professor, Research Centre for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Ms. SUN Fangfang (Senior Engineer, Shenzhen Academy of Environmental Sciences) provided the three sessions of technical inputs. They covered the introduction to urban ecosystem accounting with a focus on UN’s System of Environmental-Economic Accounting – Experimental Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA-EA) and China’s Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP), as well as implementation planning for urban ecosystem accounting. Altogether, 230 registered participants from government departments, enterprises, financial institutions, academia, and NGOs participated in the three-day workshop. In late February next year, the second edition of the Ecosystem Accounting Workshop is been planned to take place, focusing on the application of GEP (or other ecosystem accounting outputs) in urban planning.
