Dr. Christian Stärz is the Director of the Sino-German Cooperation on Biodiversity and Environment at GIZ China. He leads a variety of bilateral activities which are vital to the enhancement of political dialogue between Germany and China on the environment and nature protection. His mission also targets the implementation of various technical cooperation works, including biodiversity modeling, ecosystem accounting, green finance, green product certification, emission pollution control and the protection of air, water and soil.
Christian is also managing the German membership for the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), a high-level international advisory body which aims to strengthen cooperation and exchange between China and the international community in the field of environment and development.
Prior to his current work, Christian managed technical cooperation projects in South Asia for the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and as a GIZ Advisor in Fiji, supported a regional program for the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in regards to climate change adaptation.
Christian holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Bonn and a Diploma in Ecology from the University of Münster.
