Action Plan for Marine Litter Cleanup in Coastal Cities
The MEE, the NDRC, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs jointly issued it on June 11th, outlining a three-year comprehensive marine litter cleanup campaign. The key point is to cover 65 bays (out of 283) in coastal cities and towns, and 6 key tasks are deployed (e.g. controlling land-based litter from entering the sea). The goals include that by 2025, beach litter should be promptly and effectively cleaned, and the density of floating marine litter should significantly decrease; by 2027, the density of marine litter should substantially decrease, consistently reaching clean levels. It also requests coastal counties and districts to organize marine litter cleanup activities and proposes incorporating marine litter management into the assessment of environmental protection target achievements.
