List of New Pollutants under Priority Control (2023 Edition) Issued

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the General Administration of Customs (GAC) and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) have issued the List of New Pollutants under Key Control (2023 Edition). The List will come into effect on 1 March 2023 and will be dynamically adjusted according to the actual situation.

The List proposes 14 new pollutants for priority control, namely: 1. perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride (PFOS); 2. perfluorooctanoic acid, its salts and related compounds (PFOA); 3. decabromodiphenyl ether; 4. short-chained chlorinated paraffins; 5. hexachlorobutadiene; 6. pentachlorophenol and its salts and esters; 7. dicofol; 8. perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, its salts and related compounds (PFHxS); 9. Declone and its cis and trans isomers; 10. Methylene chloride; 11. Trichloromethane; 12. Nonylphenol; 13. Antibiotics; 14.Phased out (10 new pollutants in the phased out category including HBCD, chlordane, mirex, HCB, DDT, alpha-HCH, beta-HCH, lindane, endosulfan prodrug and its related isomers, PCBs).
