“Joint Declaration of Intent regarding the Cooperation in the Field of Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development” signed

On June 19, during the seventh China-Germany inter-governmental consultation, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection held a bilateral meeting and signed the “Joint Declaration of Intent regarding the Cooperation in the Field of Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development” (hereinafter referred to as the “Joint Declaration”).
During the meeting, both sides exchanged their views on the co-hosting of the seventh Sino-German Environment Forum, the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Diversity Framework, and other topics such as plastic pollution control and chemicals management. The effectiveness of the cooperation between the two countries in the past was highly acknowledged and both sides expressed their willingness to actively consolidate the existing achievements, while making further developments.
The Joint Declaration reaffirmed the commitment from both sides to the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, agreeing to strengthen future cooperations in environmental protection, green finance, biodiversity protection, ecological restoration, plastic pollution control, and chemicals and solid waste management.
