On 11 October, the first phase of CBD COP 15 themed “Ecological Civilization: Building a Community of Life on Earth” opened in Kunming. HAN Zheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony of the Conference and delivered a speech.

President XI Jinping attended the Leaders’ Summit of COP 15 by video on 12 October and delivered a keynote address. XI announced that China will take the lead in contributing 1.5 billion RMB to establish the Kunming Biodiversity Fund to support biodiversity conservation in developing countries.

On 13 October the “Kunming Declaration” had been adopted during the conference. The declaration commits to ensuring the development, adoption, and implementation of an effective Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework to reverse the current loss of biodiversity and to ensure that biodiversity is on a path to recovery by 2030, leading to the full realization of the 2050 vision of “People and Nature in Harmony”, and the post-2050 vision of “People and Nature in Harmony”.
